Tournament Chessmen

1945

This one is special. They're all special, but I can tell this chess set was used, played and loved by real and true chess players. It's obvious what they did, they bought two sets and combined them into one ultra-versatile and highly playable set. I wish I could do the same with all my chess sets!

With two complete chess sets, your pawns can be promoted at the back row to ANY piece and there's always a spare. Good chess sets have an extra queen for this purpose, but this set has an extra everything! There are even game notations and diagrams on the lid of the box. This is why I like old things so much, they bring me into contact with people and events in the past.

The box says these pieces are "weighted unbreakable plastic". They've certainly survived the years very well, but not without a few war-stories.

Another handy thing you can do with two chess sets: play checkers! "King me" really means something when you can replace your pawn with a real king!
