Chessmaster

E.S. Lowe

I found another set for sale on Bonanzle.com and it was listed as 1945. That set had the instructions, but mine doesn't so I'll go with that date until I find out differently. The remarkable thing about this is the marblizing in the pieces, which could indicate an early plastic such as celulite or bakelite.

The board is the same particle laminate material used for clip-boards, a bit cheesy but at the time may have been considered a revolutionary material; the box touts it as the "perfect chess board, rounded safety corners, scratch proof and warp proof."

I was thinning out my collection and sold this set on eBay. It now resides in San Antonio, Texas.
