Mahogany & Maple Board
So far, this is my favorite board. It's perfectly smooth, well crafted, the wood grains look beautiful together and it's a fantastic size. The squares are 2.25 inches and the entire board is 21.25 inches. This easily accomodates my Big Brass set (one of my favorites) while maintaining aesthetic appeal; the large chessmen don't feel crammed into squares that are too small for them.
As you might guess, this was another eBay purchase and it's one I've never regretted. I bought this fantastic board from the seller kazabee-inc who also has a web site, Kazabee.com which has a lot of fun educational things for kids.
I don't keep this board out all the time because my cats will scratch it when they walk on it (and they will). That problem was solved with a narrow mantle shelf for the board to sit on, and a longer one below it for the chess pieces.
