President Elect
Barack Obama

I am pleased to announce that TreeMonkey.net's endorsement of President Obama (I like saying "President Obama" and will say it often) could make this victory possible! LOL! Seriously, though. The time for winners and losers has passed and it's time for all of us, red state and blue state, to pull together to make this country right again. We look forward to showing George the door so we can get to work. It's going to be work, but we can do it. Yes We Can!
I have only two regrets. I regret that Bush is coming back to Texas, but I'm really hoping he has a quiet retirement outside of politics. Stay on the ranch, George. My other regret is that I moved here; if I'd been back home in Chicago I could have been present for one of modern history's greatest moments. I would have been down there in Grant Park to take in the night that things changed for the better. Sadly, I had to watch it on television. It renews my faith in Americans that we could make this happen in such a landslide victory as this.
Alright, here on the actual blog entry I don't have to watch my language like I do on the main page. How FUCKING COOL is this? Just when I thought my fellow Americans had their heads jammed up their asses, you prove me wrong. Thanks! Let's have some jumping around and yelling here! There's nothing I could write that would top the victory speech. If you missed it, get on YouTube and find it. It's worth the effort. I have it on the DVR if you want to come over and watch it with me.
The first thing we need to do, which I'm certain is being done, is to keep our new president safe. There are some rednecks in sheets that don't share the vision of this nation's majority. They have guns. But they're stupid and sloppy so I don't think it will be too hard to keep Barack alive. I hope I'm right.
We can't sit back and wait for things to get better. When you go to work, could you do everything all alone or do you rely on coworkers to do their part? We have to help too. We have to conserve gas, we have to create jobs, we have to invent, implement, manufacture and USE alternative energy sources. As you've probably heard said by now, we can't drill our way out of this problem. Expanding the science and manufacturing associated with alternative energy will create jobs too. That's a bonus.
We have a bad reputation with the rest of the world, like that guy you invite to your party who gets drunk and pukes on your dog AND your favorite chair. We have some apologizing to do. We have to earn back our trust and credibility. We have to wash the dog, steam clean the upholstery and promise not to drink when we're invited over. We can do that. Good behavior is habitual. Show some respect.
We need to get out of Iraq but we need to do it responsibly. I was never against taking out Sadam; he was well on his way to being a little Hitler. He was a criminal of gargantuan scale. When there is torture and genocide happening it has to be stopped and like it or not, we're the world's police force. That part I'm fine with. The lies, deception and unchecked spending that George thought was his right is where I begin to take issue. Just to be clear on one thing, the men and women who have died bringing peace to the region are heroes and saints. They did what I'm too chicken to do. They paid with their lives and now we have to make sure that their lives weren't wasted and that in the long run the world becomes a better place.
Starting January 20, what's done is done. There's a mess to clean up and a nation full of people have to be able to take care of themselves before the nanny can go home. I hope to see that happen very soon. But we can't just go and never look back. We have a responsibility there. Once there is stable peace and Iraq elects it's own leaders it's no longer any of our business. If they let another nut-job take over, leave them to it. But we have to be sure that the power vacuum is filled with fairly chosen leadership before we bring troops home. Otherwise someone as bad or worse will step into Sadam's place and all that blood will be spilled for nothing.
Many people never thought that a black president would be elected in their lifetimes, but we've all lived to see it happen. This is just a bonus that will grab the attention of historians. I didn't vote for Obama because he's black. I voted for him because he's intelligent, has a plan, is a graceful and inspiring public speaker and is capable of improving my country. I can see a day coming when ALL citizens are able to marry whomever they choose to spend their lives with. I will live to see it. I think I have plenty of time to find a husband, though. We have other problems to fix and an economy to rebuild. I want a country that's a nice place to live before I get married. Besides, I can always live in sin while I wait.
